Garden Warbler (Sylvia borin)
Strangely uncommon passage migrant.
All records apart from ringed birds:
1. 1 singing from the bushes on the north-east edge of Longham Reservoir North, 24-25th April 2008.
2. 1 on 28th April 2010 (being chased by Whitethroat). (Chris Parnell)
3. 1 on 21st, then 25th August 2010, along the hedgerow that borders the East Fields (Chris Parnell).
4. 1 singing on 22nd April 2011 (Peter Moore).
5. 1 migrant on 15th August 2011.
6. 1 on 9th April 2012 (Robin Trundle).
7. 1 singing on 3rd May 2014 (George Green).
8. 1 male held territory in maturing scrub near the Study Centre from 3rd-19th May. It isn’t known whether it was paired.
Ringing:
2011: 4 ringed, on 20th and 27th July, 10th August and 15th September (Roger Peart).
2012: 7 ringed: 3 in July, 2 in August and 2 in September.
2013: 3 ringed: 2 in August and 1 in September.
2014: 1 ringed in August.
2016: 1 on 26th July and another on 12th August.
Recoveries/Controls:
L515828, ringed at Southampton Common, Hampshireon 17th August 2011 was controlled at Longham on 10th August 2012 (39km W, 359 days).
