Ringing at Longham yesterday by Roger Peart was most productive. He caught 47 new birds including 13 Chiffchaffs, a Kingfisher, a Garden Warbler (quite scarce here) and a Swallow. A Reed Warbler that he caught earlier in the summer has been confirmed as previously ringed in July 2009 at Fareham as a 1st year bird.
There were also signs of post-breeding movement among the gulls. In the afternoon, 14 Lesser Black-backed Gulls included several 3rd summer birds. There were also 27 Herring Gulls of various ages, but I couldn’t find any hoped-for Yellow-legged Gulls.
