22nd April
The drake Garganey was still around at lunchtime, and other goodies included Hobby, Cuckoo (first of year), plus couple of Swifts over Longham Reservoir North. A strange sight was of 4 Common Sandpipers perched on a branch sticking out from the island in LR South (Ian Ballam). There were 5 Wheatears on Hampreston Meadows and other along the shore of LR South (George Green). Also 1 pair of Shoveler.
21st April
The pair of Garganeys remains, and a male Mandarin flew over Longham Reservoir South. Also 1 Common Tern, the first of the year (George Green).
20th April
The pair of Garganeys was still present, also 2 Common Sandpipers, 2 Whitethroats, a few Sand and House Martins and 2 Swift (Ian Ballam).
19th April
More Swifts today, 10 overhead. Also the first Peregrine of the year, 4 House Martins and 2 Med Gulls (Carl Wilcox). The pair of Garganeys were on the large island in Longham Reservoir South.
18th April
The first Swifts of the year were seen today, 3 overhead. The Garganeys were still present. Both Great Spotted Woodpecker and Nuthatch are breeding in Samuel’s Wood. (George Green)
17th April
Paul Baker had a Brambling fly over today, only the 3rd record for Longham and the first in spring. The Garganeys are still around.
16th April
A welcome return for Garganey this morning for the first record this year of a Longham regular (Dominic Couzens).
