Wednesday 18th April
It was cold, wet and blustery today, but remarkable for the number of White Wagtails seen – easily a record for the site. In the morning Chris Parnell unearthed 11 (males) on the big ploughed field on the north-west corner of the site, north of Hampreston Fields. Later on, Ian Lewis counted an astonishing 17. There were also 4 Wheatears here during the morning, 3 males and a female.
Also today, 1 Raven and Carrion Crows devouring a dead swan under the power lines, 2 Mediterranean Gulls on Longham Reservoir South and plenty of Hirundines going through of all three species. 1 Common Whitethroat singing and 1 Cetti’s Warbler singing from The Marsh.
